Luxardo Maraschino Originale is still produced according to a special formula created by Girolamo Luxardo in 1821. It is an essential cocktail ingredient.
Crystal clear in colour, the aroma is typical of Marasca cherry distillate with strong alcohol spirit and roasted nuttiness, while the taste results smooth but sharp at the same time with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and orange marmalade.
Marasca cherries, leaves and branches are put in alcoholic infusion in vats for up to three years. Once ready, this mix is distilled in copper pot stills. The distillate is then allowed to mature in ash-wood vats, before water and sugar are added.
Girolamo Luxardo (a representative of the Kingdom of Sardinia), moved to Zara with his family in 1817, where his wife Maria became especially interested in perfecting Rosolio Marachino. Six generations have since been at the helm.
Founded in Zara in 1821, Luxardo became one of the largest distilleries in the Austro – Hungarian Empire. At the end of WWI, Zara became incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy and after WWII they rebuilt the distillery in Torreglia.
Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin is the very first gin from Italian liqueur giants Luxardo and it’s a real doozy, packed with sharp cherry flavours and intense underlying notes of juniper.
A classic of the genre - Luxardo Limoncello has an attractive natural cloudy appearance and with the benefit of a lengthily infusion process, it has a bright flavour profile.
